Case study
A 12-bedroom country hotel
12 bedrooms~16 UniFi devices2 outbuildings on wireless links5 separate networks
The challenge
An older building with no network cabling in the bedrooms. Guests, staff, tills and room TVs were all sharing one network, and the owner wanted something that would look after itself.
What we did
We replaced the ISP router setup with a UniFi system: a UniFi gateway and access points placed for room-by-room coverage, with new cabling run neatly and discreetly in keeping with the character of the building, and separate networks so guest traffic never touches the tills or the management kit.
Two outbuildings on the grounds, the Bothy and the cottage, are connected by outdoor wireless links from the main building, each feeding its own indoor access point. No trenching across the grounds, and both still see around 10 ms response times and over 300 Mbps.
The hotel also has a smart control system for in-room media, with VoIP room phones planned so every room can call reception.
The result
Reliable Wi-Fi across the hotel and both outbuildings, with wired-quality speeds over the wireless links, payments isolated from guest traffic, and a network the owner doesn't have to think about. We monitor it remotely.
